I noticed you can play that beginning part from Ray Toro in the open position... If you're playing a D power chord you can get that same chromatic A-G#-E thing that you'd get up at the 10th fret on the B string. so, starting from the Low E it would be x-x-0-2-x-5.... x-x-0-2-x-4.... x-x-0-2-5-x... I'm just saying there's a different way to look at those stretchy arrangements to make them more playable, I'm just starting to learn this one so this is the only example I have for this song. I hope I can do that with his entire part because there's no wayyyyyy I have the patience for 6 fret stretches.
